Northern Azerbaijan’s opposition holds rare anti-government protest in capital
Opposition forces in Azerbaijan have mounted their liveliest rally in years, just a day after police detained several dozen activists attempting to hold an anti-government protest.
Musavat party leader Isa Gambar said the demonstration marked the start of a movement for change in the oil-rich former Soviet state.
Rally participants gathered in a central square in the capital, Baku, and shouted slogans that included calls for the resignation of government officials.
An attempted protest Friday was swiftly broken up and 32 activists were detained.ap
According to BayBak, people in North Azerbaijan followed their Southern Azerbaijani relatives by using “RED COLOR” as their symbol for protest. They promised to continue their march until the government accepts their demands. Southern Azerbaijanis are still being captive by occupier Fars regime of Iran but their national movement is spreading widely.
