A car bomb has killed 10 people and injured at least 20 outside a car dealership in the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar.

A US military spokesman said it appeared to have been a suicide attack but Iraqi police said a parked vehicle had exploded.

Once a model for US-led peace efforts, Tal Afar has seen mounting violence.

The town is near the city of Mosul, in the province of Nineveh, where al-Qaeda and Sunni insurgents are active.

In another development, the US military announced the death of one of its marines, who died on Friday from injuries received in a roadside bomb blast west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.bbc
