Turkey to recall ambassador in Paris if French parliament adopts law on punishment for denying made-up “Armenian genocide”

Turkey will recall its ambassador in Paris if French parliament adopts the draft law that considers punishment for denying of made-up “Armenian genocide”, counselor of the Turkish embassy in Paris Engin Solakoglu told Anatolian news agency, APA reports.

Solakoglu said that the adoption of this bill would be a serious blow to Turkish-Armenian relations: “In this case, Ambassador Tahsin Burcuoglu will be recalled by Ankara for an indefinite period of time”.

The draft elaborated by MP from the Union for Popular Movement (UMP) Valerie Boyer was adopted in the Parliament’s Commission on Laws last week. The draft law considers a fine of 45,000 euros and one-year imprisonment for denial of the made-up “Armenian genocide” and will be put to vote on December 22.

French Parliament recognized so-called “Armenian genocide” in 2001.
