Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will join leaders of Qatar and Syria on Monday for a summit meeting aimed at finding a solution to the political crisis in Lebanon, Turkey’s foreign minister said on Sunday.

The 14-month-old unity government of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri collapsed on Wednesday after ministers from the Hezbollah movement and its allies quit.

Hariri visited Ankara on Friday to seek support from the Turkish prime minister, and is set to begin formal negotiations to form a new government in Lebanon on Monday.

Erdogan will meet Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus, Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters on his way to Baghdad.

Also, Davutoglu engaged in phone diplomacy with his Qatari and Syrian counterparts for preparations ahead of the summit meeting of leaders, diplomats said.

Meanwhile, Davutoglu held a series of talks with Iraqi authorities as part of his visit to Baghdad.

Davutoglu met with Iraqi Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Turhan Hassan and Turkmen deputies at the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad.

Davutoglu’s visit will be the first after the new Iraqi government was formed last month. His talks will focus on bilateral relations as well as regional issues. Davutoglu and Turkish diplomats will also discuss preparations for future actions as part of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council established between the two countries in 2008.

Davutoglu and his delegation will head for Syria after completing talks in Baghdad.

Turkey, like other countries in the region, fears instability in Lebanon could have consequences in the wider region.worldbulletin
