Turkey’s Chief of General Staff to be replaced

Turkey’s Supreme Military Council (YAS) will hold a meeting in Ankara tomorrow, APA reports quoting the Turkish mass media.
The meeting will be held at the General Staff Headquarters. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also attend the meeting.
Replacement of the leadership of Turkish General Staff, promotion of a group of officers to higher ranks will be considered at the meeting. Under the decision of YAS, the term of service of a group of officers will be prolonged.
The main issues are appointments of new Chief of General Staff and Commander of the Gendarmerie Forces. Chief of General Staff General Ilker Basbug and Gendarmerie Forces Commander Atila Isik will retire as their tenure will expire on August 30.
According to the legislative acts of the Turkish Armed Forces, Turkish Land Forces Commander General Isik Kosaner is expected to be appointed as Chief of General Staff.
Nearly 35 generals and admirals are expected to be promoted to higher ranks, 45 colonels to general and admiral.
