A passenger train derailment in northeastern Iran killed at least 8 people and injured 12 others on Saturday, said state television.
Reportedly, a train running between the eastern city of Mashhad and the capital Tehran derailed near Shahroud town. Officials said there were 50 passengers on board and they fear the death toll may increase.
The incident is considered as the deadliest since 2004 when fuel and chemicals laden runaway trains cars derailed in northeastern part of the country, triggering explosions to consume five villages.trt
