In recent months, some of the media in Azerbaijan have spread completely distorted information about Iran, the statement of the Iranian Embassy in (North) Azerbaijan said.

These publications are a “betrayal of the public opinion of their own people” and create “problems” for the foreign policy of Azerbaijan, according to the statement.

To expose “such vile intentions of some of the media working for foreign countries,” the Embassy informs the people of Azerbaijan that Iran wants peace and stability in the region. In addition, Iran recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and presents the international community a fair position on the Karabakh conflict corresponding to the interests of the region, the statement reads.

Further, the Embassy criticized the OSCE Minsk Group for the fact that it proved its inability to resolve this conflict and that the co-chair countries want to use this conflict to benefit from it.

As for Iran, this country stands for peace in the region and around the world, and regional crises occur when states from other regions interfere.

Iran is seeking to develop trade with Azerbaijan, but Azerbaijan does not show interest in this, according to the Embassy. As evidence, the Embassy gives a number of customs and legal restrictions on the Azerbaijani side, which disrupt the implementation of the bilateral agreements at the highest level.

Despite all these problems, the trade between Iran and Azerbaijan is much higher than with Armenia, the statement reads. Further, the Embassy hints at broader trade between Turkey and Armenia.

Again returning to the Karabakh issue, the Embassy said that the solution to this problem is not with the foreign policy of Iran, but with other two factors: the combat readiness of forces that would liberate the occupied areas, as well as exclusion of the possibility of intervention of some regional and foreign countries.

Iran was not involved with the occupation of Shusha and Lachin. A number of forces in the region were interested in undermining the peace mission to Iran in that period.

There are no problems with human rights violations in Iran, according to the Embassy, which called such reports a Zionist intrigue.

Iran canceled the visa regime for citizens of Azerbaijan, creating an opportunity for ordinary citizens to see the Iranian reality themselves.

Representatives of Iran in Azerbaijan retain the right to prosecute the authors of unscrupulous publications and urge the Azerbaijani media to be fair and not to succumb to provocations of Zionists and Western backers, the statement reads.

However, this vast document does not contain a single name of a journalist or a medium, or even a specific article that caused the dissatisfaction of the Embassy. At the same time, it should be noted that the pro-government and official media in Azerbaijan have been most critical of Iran recently.contact
