Russia-owned Sarmat-1 cargo ship crashed in December has been arrested under the decision of Azerbaijani court. APA reports quoting Regnum agency that the ship was arrested basing on the claim of the State Company of Caspian Oil Fleet.
The company demands compensation from the owner of the ship for having rescued the goods. Sarmat-1 en route Astrakhan-Enzeli caught in storm in Absheron peninsula. The steering-wheel was broken and the crew was obliged to signal. After the talks with the State Company of Caspian Oil Fleet the company agreed to tug the ship and bring it to the coast. The ship was carrying metal and wooden products to Enzeli.
Sarmat-1 was repaired in Baku shipyard and is ready to sail, but the problem of compensation has not been solved yet. The State Company of Caspian Oil Fleet told SiaNews agency that the owner of the ship was aware of the amount of the compensation. The agency reports that the ship is owned by Navigator CSC. Portnews agency reports that the ship is owned by Amesko OSC. The agency published the statement of the company. The statement says that the State Company of Caspian Oil Fleet wants €700,00 for having rescued the ship and this figure was exaggerated:
“Our insurance company is ready to pay the real sum, not the exaggerated one.â€apa
