Combating terrorism as well as new nuclear deals are likely to be at the forefront of talks, as President Dmitry Medvedev makes his first ever visit to India.

World leaders have offered condolences to India for the tragedy which has been dubbed ‘the Mumbai Massacre’. Attacks like these expose the world as it is: vulnerable, and the shockwaves resonate across the globe.
“Without doubt we are ready for full-scale co-operation on all anti-terrorism issues,†said Medvedev. “We have a strategic partnership and friendly relations. We are ready to help our Indian friends to fight this common threatâ€.

The terrorist attacks in Mumbai will most likely dominate talks in India – the investigation into exactly what happened and how to prevent similar tragedies happening again. Russia and India plan to tighten cooperation in this area and are set to hold joint anti-terror training in January.
This is by no means the only area where they’ll work together closely, as Moscow and Delhi are old pals. Both are trying to build stronger economies, brick by brick. They are both part of the BRIC block –Brazil, Russia, India and China – and in the current financial crisis that’s wreaking havoc on global economies, they might just be the saviours of the slump.
“Now we need to create a multi-polar world, politically and economically,†Medvedev believes.
“I can’t see how the most important world economic issues could be currently solved without Russia or India. In this sense, it’s highly important to intensify our interaction within BRIC – the union of the four most dynamic developing world economiesâ€.
This is President Medvedev’s second visit to a BRIC state in as many weeks, and a sign that developing economies may well become the driving force of global finance.
The agenda of this strategic visit also includes the strengthening of nuclear cooperation between Moscow and Delhi. According to the chief of Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, some agreements are ready to be signed on Friday.
“We’ve named them the Agreement on the four blocks of Kudam-Ulam and other platforms. Also, this agreement allows us to cooperate in the areas of mechanical engineering, nuclear fuel cycle, uranium, atomic medicine, isotopes – without any limitations. We have once again confirmed that Russia and India are strategic partners in the nuclear power industryâ€.
Military ties are also a priority, and despite setbacks caused by price disputes, Russia continues to be India’s main military supplier.russiatoday
