An armed member of outlawed Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (PDKI) has been killed by Iranian police in Saqez in northwestern Iran.
The militant, known as Sheikh Gharib Hassani, was killed on Wednesday evening when he clashed with the Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) in the border town. His cohort, trying to flee the scene, was wounded and arrested in the incident.
The outlawed group with Marxist-Leninist roots, was founded in Mahabad, Iran, on August 16, 1945. The group restructured the Komeley Jiyanewey Kurd (Council of Kurdish Resurrection) which had been formed three years earlier.
The PDKI currently chaired by Mustafa Hijri, calls for the secession of Kurdistan province from Iran.press
