Azerbaijan intends to supply compressed natural gas to Bulgaria, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev told a press conference after the trip to Bulgaria.
According to him, several important documents in the field of energy were signed between the two countries. One of them is a memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy between the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism of Bulgaria.
The document specifies areas in which the ministries of the two countries will cooperate and support the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and the Bulgarian company Bulgargaz in the supply of Azeri gas to Bulgaria.
He added that a new point in the document is the plans to deliver compressed natural gas to Bulgaria by tankers across the Black Sea.
“Natural gas will be transported by tankers to the port city of Varna in Bulgaria. Azerbaijan hasn’t carried out such transportation before. This is a new way for us. In this regard, both sides will set up working groups, conduct research and analysis. Some related projects and proposals have already been submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan and SOCAR,” he noted.
Natig Aliyev added that the project will cost U.S. $2 billion.
