Kurdish terrorist party banned in Turkey

According to TRT, The Constitutional Court of Turkey shut down Democratic Society Party on Friday night after 4 days long investigation of the case.
Constitutional Court President Haşim Kılıç has announced that high-level officials of the party, including Ahmet Türk and Aysel Tuğluk have been banned from politics for 5 years.
HaÅŸim Kılıç said “Democratic Society Party has been shut down according to the related provisions of the Law on Political Parties for becoming the “hotbed of activities that are against the indivisable integrity of the nation and the state”.
Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office had filed a lawsuit against Democratic Society Party on Novermber 16, 2007 on grounds that the Party had become the “focal point of activities that are against the indivisible integrity of the nation and the state”.
The indictment against the DTP also called for 219 members, including 8 MPs to be banned from politics. The rapporteur of the Constitutional Court had presented an opinon that the Party should be closed down.
The Constitution stipulates that at least 7 out of 11 permanent members of the Supreme Court are needed to shut down a political party.
