Turan Air has today launched a permanent flight between Baku (Azerbaijan) and Kars (Turkey).

The first flight from Baku on this route took Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadikhov, Consul-General in Kars Hasan Zeynalov, parliamentarians and media representatives.

Timur Selcuq, Chairman of Istanbul-based Azerbaijan Society, was the only passenger with ticket on board.

First flight from Baku has been welcomed at Kars airport solemnly. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadikhov addressing the event stressed an importance of flight for the two countries in terms of moral, economy and tourism. Deputy Minister mentioned that many Azerbaijanis were living in Kars and direct flight would ease to establish relations with motherland. Sadikhov added that Baku-Kars-Baku Air Flight will contribute to broad assessment of tourism opportunities of the two countries. Consul-General in Kars Hasan Zeynalov addressing the event stated that Heydar Aliyev was a founder of this idea. To him, proper measures on opening of the flight have been taken after pursuing the idea by Heydar Aliyev. Zeynalov stressed a moral importance of the flight between Baku and Kars where Azerbaijanis live densely.

Kars Governor Mehmet Ufuk Erden addressing the event expressed his hope for further expanding brotherhood relations between he two cites. He noted that Kars had more tourism potential and stressed an importance of the flight in terms of tourism.

Operated by Turan Air and Alfa Travel, flights are on Monday and Friday.

A one-way ticket costs AZN 145 and round-trip AZN 256. Tu-154 aircraft flies in this route. The plane leaves Baku at 08.30 am and departs from Kars on 09.15 am.apa
