Hundreds of Japanese protesters hold placards and flags of East Turkestan and shouted anti-China slogans during a demonstration in Tokyo over the killings of Uighurs.

Meanwhile, the Chinese authorities banned public gatherings in Urumqi city after deadly incidents.

World Uighur Congress said that near 800 Uigurs were killed during a week-violence after Han Chineses attacks and following intervention of China forces. The China governmnet put the death toll 156.

Some 50 Uighur expatriates and hundreds of Japanese supporters marched through the capital, chanting: “China stop genocide! Free Uighur!” and carrying placards written “Give freedom to Uighur”.

President of the Japan Uighur Association, Ilham Mahmut denied Chainese announcement that claims most of the killed people during unrest were “Han Chineses”.

Video appeared showing Chinese lynch that sparked Uighur protests in East Turkistan.

“Propaganda campaign”

Exiled Uighur leaders insist last Sunday’s protests were peaceful until security forces over-reacted with deadly force, and that further deaths have occurred following Sunday’s unrest.

Han Chineses attacked on Uighur workers in a dormitory of a toy factory in China’s southern Guangdong province, killing two people and injuring 118.

After the attack, Chinese police arrested 1,434 Uighurs two days after killing thousands and wounding more than 1,000 since Uighurs started the protests in the capital Urumqi.

Japan demonstrator collected signatures for an open letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao which condemned Chaina’s “propaganda campaign on state media which solely blames the Uyghurs (Uighurs) for the violence.”

“By suppressing the truth, the Chinese government is only further exacerbating the longstanding grievances of the Uyghur people and sewing the seeds for further discontent,” it said.

East Turkistan has 8 million Uighurs and historical records show that the Uyghurs have a history of more than 4000 years.

East Turkistan was occupied by the communist China in 1949 and its name was changed in 1955.

Many Uighurs resent Han Chinese rule, complaining they’re marginalised economically and politically in their own land, while having to tolerate a rising influx of Han Chinese migrants.

Meanwhile, human rights groups accuse Beijing of using claims of “terrorism” as an excuse to crack down on peaceful pro-independence sentiment and expressions of Uighur identity.worldbulletin
