Eliezer said before his flight to Turkey that Israel hopes to set up trust relationship with Turkey again as the two countries have extremely important strategic interests.

Noting that he visits Turkey as the representative of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Eliezer also gave signs of Israel’s wish to restart indirect talks with Syria.

However, Netanyahu said a while ago he preferred direct talks with Syria, without mediation as he did not see Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdoğan unbiased.

Ankara receives the Israeli Minister in a standoffish manner.

Underlining that there is not any improvement in the situation of Gaza, Turkey urges Israel to decide on the “big picture” for the Middle East peace.

Being reminded of Netanyahu’s remarks, Eliezer was told that Israel should act as a “single piece” on starting indirect talks with Syria under Turkey’s mediation.

Israeli press reports that Eliezer will chair the Joint Economic Commission along with National Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül and meet President Abdullah Gül and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.
However, Israeli diplomatic resources in Ankara fail to give information about Eliezer’s contacts.trt
