Turkish aid group moved Israel ship attack case to International Criminal Court in the Hague.

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation executives, Ahmed Dogan, the father of 19-year-old Furkan Dogan who was killed in the assault, activists and lawyers representing the Turkish victims of Israel’s deadly storming of a Gaza-bound flotilla in May have called on the International Criminal Court to punish those responsible in the city of The Hague, the Netherlands.

If the court accepts the case, Israelis who are responsible for the deadly attack such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Affairs Minister Avigdor Liberman, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Chief of General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, and other responsible persons could face charges such as Serb criminals Radovan Karadzic and Slobodan Milosevic.

After formal application to the court, activists and lawyers held a press conference in front of the building.

“Sincerity test”

Speaking at the press conference, Ramazan Ariturk, one of the lawyers for the nine Turkish victims, said, 18-page criminal complaint petition and a file documenting the crimes committed by Israel was submitted to the court.

“Statements of activists who faced the bloody Israeli attack on international water, photographs and images of the bloody attack and the United Nations Human Rights Council’s report that found Israel guilty one hundred percent are in this file,” Ariturk said.

He said victims want Israel investigated for torture, inhuman treatment and violations of the Geneva war crimes convention and the case will be “sincerity test” for the court. Turkish lawyer stated that activists from other countries will appeal to the ICC as well.

Father of Furkan DoÄŸan, who shot by Israeli soldiers at close range on Mavi Marmara, Ahmed Dogan were among the arrivals in the Hague for the appeal. Dogan said he is in court not only for his son, but for all the dead activists.

IHH vice president Yavuz Dede stated they will do everyting possible to condemn Israel internationally.

“A bloody attack that killed 9 of our people, wounded more than 50 activists should not go unpunished. We would like to see justice has not died in the world,” he said.

Of MAZLUMDER, a Turkish human rights group, Istanbul Branch President and attorney Cihad Gokdemir said, “We do not need any approval for our rightness by any international body or by the court. We know that we are right. But an attack that has international dimensions and the ones who are responsible for this inhuman attack if goes unpunished by an international court, that will encourage them for the future. We will pursue the case ’till international court do its task.”

ICC’s chief prosecutor will send the appeal to the front office after reviewing the court file. The judges will review the file a second time. If the front desk decides that the file is adequate, it will be sent to attorney general again for investigation, so the the process of litigation will be initiated. The court will determine the lenght of this process.worldbulletin
