Month of Muharram starts on November 27. According to the fatwa issued by the Cadi Council of the Caucasian Muslims Board, the beginning of the new year of 1433 – the First of the Month of Muharram by the Islamic (Hijri) lunar calendar falls on November 27, 2011 by Christian calendar.
“Muharram is one the holy and honorable months of Hijri lunar calendar. Our holy religion – Islam prohibits fighting during this month. 10th day of Muharram is Ashura, a day when Imam Husain and Ahl al-Bayt supporters became martyrs in Karbala. The tragedy of Karbala is the most painful event in the history of Muslim Ummah, but it brought honor and pride to the people. It has great significance that this event remains in memory of generations and the people pay tribute to Imam Husain and his struggle. There is wisdom of restoration of Truth and mobilization for Justice in martyrdom of Imam Husain. Tribute to the struggle of Imam Husain for purity of religion every year is not a suggestion of pessimistic mood, but it is an invitation to heroism and steadfastness for liberation of the occupied landsâ€, the fatwa reads.
According to the fatwa, Ashura falls on December 6, 2011: “On these mourning days in memory of Karbala martyrs, CMB Cadi Council offers condolences to all faithful people and asks Allah for patience of them and recommends conducting the mourning ceremonies worthy to Imam Husain. The people should keep the peace during the Ashura ceremonies in the mosques and shrines and pray for the Karbala martyrs, observe the discipline and order and avoid the actions not appreciated by Islam, actions like harming themselves with chain and daggers. In recent years, blood donation actions have been organized on these mourning days to meet needs of ill people for sake of Imam Husain. These actions are organized on the initiative of the Caucasian Muslims Board and appreciated by our people as an acceptable example of martyrdom. This experience must be widely spread among the Muslims. We are hopeful that Insha’Allah believers will master the essence of Islamic martyrdom philosophy through Imam Husain mourning this year too. Our people learned this wisdom honoring the memory of their sons, who became martyrs in the battles for liberation of Karabakh and Insha’Allah, our people will make more efforts for restoration of integrity of our lands, sustainable development of our Motherland and protection of holy religious-moral valuesâ€.
