Fridun Mahdipur an Azerbaijani prisoner in Urmu is in hunger strike

. | From 21st of May 2008 he started his hunger strike to protest bad condition of Azerbaijani prisoners in Urmu jail and also to highlight the pressure that Iranian government applies to all Azerbaijanis.
22nd of May 2006 was the uprising of Azerbaijanis against Iranian chauvinism and discriminating of Azerbaijani Turks (the majority ethnic group in Iran) by minority Fars rulers. Many killed and thousands arrested during 2 weeks of clash between people and security forces. Many activists still are in prison to serve unlawful sentences. |
Acording to Urmu news, Fridun Mahdiur was convicted of involvements in May 2006 uprising in Azerbaijan, also of his activities for defending Azerbaijani rights in Iran. Iranian court sentenced him for 39 month and 1 day in prison.
He was arrested and tortured several times for his human rights activities.
