The Court of Justice of the European Communities ruled that Turkish businessmen are not required to apply for a visa to conduct business trips in Europe.

Two Turkish nationals filed a legal case in the court against Germany in 2007 in relation to the visa requirement of Turkish lorry drivers in order to provide services within in the international transport of goods by road.

The applicants claimed that such a requirement violates the Ankara Agreement signed between Turkey and the European Community.

“Article 41(1) of the Additional Protocol… is to be interpreted as meaning that it precludes the introduction, as from the entry into force of that protocol, of a requirement that Turkish nationals such as the appellants in the main proceedings must have a visa to enter the territory of a Member State in order to provide services there on behalf of an undertaking established in Turkey, since, on that date, such a visa was not required,” the court said in its ruling.hurriyet
