More than 5,000 people gathered for a meeting of the Public Chamber, uniting the leading opposition force, on the outskirts of Baku in the Twentieth Station settlement.
The meeting began with a delay, because the government restricted the movement of shuttle buses from the city center.
The first speech was made by the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli. “This is the first demonstration that the government allowed to spend in the last 7 years. Over the years, the authorities tried to suppress and stifle opposition, but the regime could not do it by prohibiting rallies or arranging murders of journalists,” he said.
While criticizing domestic and foreign policy powers, Kerimli said that neither Heydar Aliyev nor his son did anything to liberate Karabakh.
Instead, the corrupt regime arranges “charity”, stealing money from the people and not wanting to return the savings of the Soviet period to them.
“Such a regime should be sent to resign!” This call of Kerimli was received with enthusiasm – the people began to chant – Resign!
The next speech was made by a former MP Panah Husein, who said that at today’s rally there were 10,000 people, and the next time there will be 100,000.
He urged to dismiss the parliament, the government, and the President Ilham Aliyev.
“That day will come and the present rally is evidence that people are not broken, not blocked and will not abandon their primary goal – to get rid of this regime,” he said.
The leader of the party “Musavat” Isa Gambar said the wave of democratic changes and freedom will not bypass Azerbaijan. These changes are inevitable, the Aliyev regime has exhausted itself and finish of its existence is a matter of time. We want these changes to be bloodless, and to achieve this, the rally should gather 100,000 people, he said.
As a result, the meeting adopted a resolution that expressed demand to release political prisoners, stop the repression against the people in Guba, ensure new free and fair elections this year, end corruption and raise pensions and scholarships, stop violations of property rights, give fair compensation to the victims of floods, and develop a national platform on the issue of Karabakh.
The next meeting of the Public Chamber is scheduled for April 22.contact
