Documents and research related to the 779 people who have been sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison since 2002, including the dossier of Azerbaijani detainee Polad Sirajov, have been published.
Sirajov was admitted as an enemy combatant in that dossier, which also says that he voluntarily traveled from Azerbaijan to Afghanistan to look for the Taliban and admitted to fighting the Americans. “The detainee admitted to being a guard in Taliban and being issued an AKM-7.62 rifle. The detainee was injured as a result of artillery attack by the Northern Alliance forces. He surrendered to the Northern Alliance forces near Mazar-e Sharif in November, 2001â€, said the document.
US President Barack Obama issued an order to close the Guantánamo Bay prison in 2009. Most of the prisoners have been released since then. Sirajov was also among the pardoned prisoners, but he refused to return to his country. He was sent to the third country via the international organizations. Sirajov is in Slovakia.
Only Azerbaijani prisoner of Guantánamo – Polad Sirajov graduated from the school of economics of the Erciyez University in Kayseri, Turkey and worked for a Turkish company operated in Russia. He left home in 2001.apa
