Azerbaijan-Turkey energy talks end in Ankara

Turkish Minister Hilmi Guler said the two countries are implementing transnational projects adding that oil has been transported via the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline since mid last year.



Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev’s talks with Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler have ended in Ankara, APA’s Turkey bureau reports.

Natig Aliyev stated after the meeting that energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey is very important.
“We support the energy deal between Iran and Turkey. Azerbaijan is pleased with all projects that are beneficial for Turkey,” Azerbaijani Minister said.

Mr.Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan supports transportation of gas to Europe through Turkey. The Minister expressed Azerbaijan’s intention to sell gas to Europe at the second phase of Shah Deniz project and stressed the need for Turkey’s support regarding this issue.

Turkish Minister Hilmi Guler said the two countries are implementing transnational projects adding that oil has been transported via the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline since mid last year.

“We would be pleased to work together in the second phase of Shah Deniz project as well. Greece and Italy are looking forward for Azeri gas,” Mr.Guler stressed.

Turkish Minister told a briefing after the meeting that it is planned to achieve transportation of 1 million barrels of oil daily from 2008 adding that the throughput capacity of the pipeline will be enlarged, “We have agreed with Azerbaijani side on use of chemicals and compressors to enlarge the throughput capacity.” Mr.Guler said the Baku-Arzurum gas pipeline will be enlarged by 2012 within the framework of the Shah Deniz project adding the process is estimated to finish earlier.apa
