Turkey’s relations with Iraq have developed in the last years on mutual understanding of common issues and a tripartite mechanism to eradicate terror.

According to TRT, Iraq’s Vice President Adel Abdul-Mahdi paid a short visit to the Turkish capital of Ankara on December 30 and met with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, taking up bilateral relations and recent developments in Iraq where numerous large-scale bomb attacks have shook a period of calm.
New opportunities for investment in Iraq were also on the agenda.

In October 2009, Turkish and Iraqi officials signed more than 40 agreements, including a memorandum of understanding to transport Iraqi natural gas to Europe via Turkey.
