Araz Azimov: The resolution adopted in UN General Assembly should be a serious warning for OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs

“Though European countries could not vote for the resolution on the situation in the occupied Azerbaijani territories in the UN General Assembly, they abstained and did not join the injustice against Azerbaijan,†Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov told journalists, APA reports.
Assessing the position of OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, Araz Azimov said the mediators were interested in the continuation of the process of negotiations.
“Azerbaijan is doing its best for the continuation of the discussions. The resolution adopted in the UN General Assembly covered the principles of the conflict settlement and supported the activity of OSCE Minsk Group. We understand that the continuation of the negotiations should be effective. The discussions can not substitute the principle of settlement of the conflict. The co-chairs give some promises by changing the target of the process of negotiations. But then their proposals do not harmonize with these promises,†he said.
Araz Azimov also accused OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs of making incorrect statements.
“The co-chairs make some mistakes in their statements. I would like to note the statements equally considering the principle of territorial integrity and principle of self-determination and statements that these principles aim at finding a joint formula. The principle of peoples’ self-determination is one of the international legal principles. But there is an important element in its interpretation. Self-determination should by no means result in the violation of territorial integrity. This principle can be implemented only through peace,†he said.
According to Araz Azimov, the co-chairs are mistaken when they say Azerbaijan demonstrates one-sided position.
“This statement is not right. Firstly, the document covering the principles of the settlement of the conflict has not been agreed yet.
This document was prepared depend eng on wish of co chairs and this document is nothing but dictated by them and it should not quoted. This document was not coordinated. The new elements were not discussed,†he said. Foreign Deputy Minister announced the anxiety of OSCE MG.
“After establishment of monopoly on the activity of MG, they feel at ease in this monopoly. They gave information to international society as they want and prolonged the discussions and prefer discussions through 3rd side. It was not made clear that whether they intend to influence to Armenian’s position or not. The situation will be probably changed after adoption of resolution by UN. Certainly, co-chairs will continue their activity, but the issue with co-chairs should be changed principally. There are several OSCE MG member countries. Turkey. Member of OSCE MG voted for adoption of resolution yesterday, Germany supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity at a high level several times. Positions stated yesterday’s discussions show that international community stated its position exactly,†he said. He sated that Kosovo experience on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict failed.
“Azerbaijan refuses Kosovo precedent. Adoption of the resolution in UN General Assembly shows that Armenia did not achieve success in this direction. This should be serious warning for co-chair s. We will not go toward darkness. We want clearness and this clearness can be carried out within territorial integrity,†he said. Araz Azimov stated that statements that resolution adopted by UN General Assembly caused damage to the negotiations within OSCE MG are groundless.
“On the contrary, this resolution should be serious warning fro Armenia and activity of co-chairs should be based on it. Representatives of co-chair countries tried to prevent adoption of resolution. It did not occur. Adoption of resolution supported activity of OSCE MG activity, statements on the change of format of negations are groundless,†he said.apa
