Andres Herkel: We will participate in the discussions on amendments to Electoral Code during our visit in Azerbaijan

Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and Yevegniya Jivkova will visit Baku on February 4-8.
Mr.Herkel told APA exclusively that ongoing process on the eve of presidential elections in Azerbaijan, freedom of expression and issues on prisoners will be priority during the visit.
“Our visit to Baku will coincide with the visit of Venice Commission members, and therefore we will participate in the discussions on amendments to Electoral Code and qualification of law on freedom of freely assembly,” he said.
Mr.Herkel said that they will only stay in Baku during their visit, they will not visit the regions.
“We will devote one day of our visit to meetings with prisoners, government representatives and Working Group on Human Rights composed of rights defenders,” he said.
Co-rapporteur saying that the program has not yet been confirmed completely said that they will meet with government representatives, members of political parties, NGOs. He also said that he and Ms. Jivkova had first meeting in the framework of PACE session, and stressed that they will exchange information due to joint visits within this week.
