Dear reader, if you would like to help us and send this letter to the director of VOA, please fill in the form created [1] here and send it.

Dear Mr. Danforth w. Austin

Director of the Voice of America (VOA)

I am one of audiences of the Farsi service of VOANews. I have a complaint about the VOANews programs in Farsi service.
As President Bush mentioned in one of his statements only half of Iranians are Persian.
( [2] www.standardnewswire.com/news/86294972.html ):

” First of all, you do understand Iran is a Shia nation primarily. Interestingly enough, though, only 50 percent of the nation is Persian. A great portion of Iran is Azeri, Baloch, other kinds of nationalities make up their country.”

But regrettably in the programs of the Farsi service of VOANews, the human rights and news of the activities of the other nations in Iran are not covered as in the case of Persians! I want to invite you to investigate that how many minutes of the programs are dealing with the problems of Azeris Balochs, Arabs, Turkmens, Kurds and … in comparison with Persians? I will give some real examples:

Last year in May 2006 several big demonstrations were taken place in North West of Iran where the Azeri people were shown their opposition to the regime’s restrictions to the minorities’ human rights especially their cultural and linguistic rights to study their own language in the schools and universities. Those demonstrations were the biggest anti-regime demonstrations which have ever been happened in Iran after the revolution in 1979. In those demonstrations tens of people were killed and hundreds were injured or arrested. Also this year in May 2007 hundreds of Azeri people were arrested in the demonstrations which were taken place as anniversary. But VOANews and RadioFrada did not cover those demonstrations properly.

The other example was the hunger strike of Mr. “Abbas Lisani”. VOANews and RadioFrada jsut mentioned it after one month of the hunger strike very shortly and if one compares it with the hunger strike of Mr. “Akbar Ganji” a Persian opposite of the regime, he will find out that there is a very big discrimination against Azeri activists like Mr. Lisani:

( [3] usinfo.state.gov/xarchives/display.html?p=washfile-english&y=2007&m=January&x=20070131190905esnamfuak0.1800043 )

This discriminations comes from the fact that most of the Iranian staff of the VOANews and RadioFrada are opposed to the minority rights in Iran and non of them really depute the ethnic minorities in Iran like Azeris, baloch, arabs, kurds,…. The only way to change this unfair use of the United States budget to help the democratic activities in Iran is that at least half of the staff of the VOANews and RadioFrada should be chosen from those people who really depute the other nations which live in Iran.

Best regards
