Armenia’s snap decision to suspend normalization of ties with Turkey was calmly received by the Turkish side.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that it is at Armenian discretion to decide how to manage the ratification process and reiterated Turkey’s commitment to the process.

“We have expressed clearly, to all parties concerned, our intention to achieve comprehensive peace in the region,” told ErdoÄŸan a news conference in the capital Ankara.

Prime Minister ErdoÄŸan also drew attention to Armenian attempts to press US President Obama to render his April 24 statement in line with their allegations.

The protocols which were intended for restoration of relations between the two neighbors were inked on October 10th. Shortly after the signing, Turkey submitted the peace accords to the parliament for ratification.

On the Armenian side, the protocols could reach out to the parliament only after a justified decision by the Constitutional Court.

Ankara reacted against Armenia’s reluctant decision citing that it contains unacceptable preconditions and restrictive provisions. Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry Feridun Sinirlioğlu sent letters to Baku and Yerevan in his capacity as Prime Minister Erdoğan’s special representative.

Also, Turkish Premier ErdoÄŸan held talks with Armenian leader Sargsyan and US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of a Washington nuclear conference.

The latest development came on Thursday from Armenia’s ruling coalition which announced that it suspended ratification of peace accords with Turkey.

Upon the Armenian halt, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Burak Özügergin said Ankara is analyzing the situation.trt
