Israeli aircraft have struck a series of targets throughout the Gaza Strip, killing at least 27 Palestinians, including four youths and the son of a Hamas leader, in the past 24 hours.
More than 60 Palestinians have also been injured in the raids that intensified on Thursday following the death of an Israeli due to rocket fire a day earlier.

Iran denies Western charges it seeks nuclear weapons and has ignored three previous Security Council resolutions demanding it freeze its uranium enrichment program, which can produce fuel for nuclear power plants or atomic weapons.
The five permanent council members — the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia — and Germany, which is not on the council, agreed in Berlin on January 22 on a draft text outlining a third round of sanctions against Tehran. |

Turkish Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul refused to offer a timetable for a pull-out while giving assurances that the incursion, launched on February 21, posed no challenge to Iraqi sovereignity.
“Turkey will remain in northern Iraq as long as necessary,” Gonul said after talks with Gates, adding that the troops will return home once PKK hideouts are destroyed. |

Turkey’s military General Staff said on Wednesday 77 more PKK members and five more Turkish soldiers had been killed in heavy fighting in northern Iraq since Tuesday evening. The latest figures brought the total death toll among the PKK members to 230 and among Turkish soldiers to 24. On the other hand, US Gates’ visit is awaited as Turkish delegation travels to Baghdad to hold several meetings with the Iraqi executives today.
