Armenian armed forces launched wide attacks to Kalbajar region on March 10, 1993 from Basarkecher and Aghdere directions. Kalbajar was occupied by Armenians at night from April 1 to 2 after more than 20 days of fierce fihtings. 52000 region resident became refugees, 220 civillians were killed, 321 were taken captive by Armenians while fleeing their homes. The region was intensively fired from Grad MLRS and field-guns.
After the occupation Armenia started massive exploitation of rich gold fields of Kalbajar. Experts asses gold deposits in Kalbajar, ready for exploitation 150 tons, while the prognosis suggest about 350 tons. Armenia is cooperation with a number of foreign companies in expoitation works.ans
